The 30 year old Toxic star sees the second series of the American talent show as a perfect way to show the world her much publicised troubles are well and truly behind her.

With Simon Cowell sacking both Nicole Scherzinger and more surprisingly Paula Abdul at the end of the last series, Britney’s declaration that she would like to take part could put the ‘cat amongst the pigeons’.

It was widely thought it was a three way battle for the two places between, Maria Carey, Janet Jackson and Pink.

As an insider on the show said “In terms of excitement and intrigue Britney would top them all”
